Policy Management Architecture
Overview
PMA Manages the Network Connection NetManage Policy Management Architecture, or PMA for short, is a new enabling technology that for the first time allows administrators to control how the networked desktop interacts with the corporate IntraNet. PMA is the desktop software building block for plug-ins that control and enhance how desktop applications use the IntraNet. Until now, there have been no desktop management tools that control how networked applications behaved and/or utilized advanced features available on the network. PMA is an infrastructure component of ChameleonNFS/X that enables this for the first time. Features are managed via PMA Plug-ins that perform different taks. NetManage currently provides three standard plug-ins: GateKeeper to help manage bandwidth usage; Weighted Fair Queuing to activate a Quality of Service feature found in Cisco routers; as well as INETD support for activation of other desktop services. NetManage is publishing an open API that allows customer and other vendor written pulg-ins to be used with PMA. PMA is protocol independent and currently provides controls and services. PMA works with Microsoft's, NetManage's, or any other Windows TCP/IP stack. In fact because of the low level where it resides, PMA can also be used to manage IPX/SPX, SNA or other network traffic going through the PC's network interface card. PMA is shippng now, and is included as a standard feature in every copy of ChameleonNFS/X 6.0. This is part of NetManage's continuing mission to provide enhanced applications and technologies for the standards-based corporate IntraNet. ![]() |
